Paul Williams Will Hand Carlos Quintana Loss #2

WBO welterweight belt holder Paul the Punisher Williams (33-0, 24 KOs) puts his undefeated record on the line against Carlos Quintana (24-1, 19 KOs) this Saturday.

Fresh off of a defining win against perennial contender Antonio Margarito, Williams is seeking to further cement his claim as the best welterweight in the world, not named Mayweather or Cotto. Carlos Quintana’s last major fight was also defining. The problem is that his latest fight defined Cotto, not him. To put it bluntly, Quintana got handed a can of whup-ass by the talented Cotto.

Both fighters are very skilled boxer-punchers, but I strongly favor Williams in this one for three reasons. One, he is coming off of the high of a win over the tough, respected Margarito. Two, he’s physically superior to Quintana. He is taller, has a longer reach, has more power, and has faster hands. And three, Quintana is coming off of the low of a beat-down at the hands of Miguel Cotto (technically his last fight was a knockout victory over journeyman Christopher Henry (23-18), but that doesn’t count!). The effects of the Cotto loss may still be lingering, mentally and physically.

And the winner is…Paul the Punisher Williams by late stoppage, probably around round eight or nine. Also, keep an eye on undefeated sensation Andre Berto (20-0, 17 KOs), as he faces Michel Trabant (43-2-1, 19 KOs) in a 10-round welterweight bout on the undercard. Berto has a considerable offensive repertoire, but I still have questions about his chin and defense. Trabant is unlikely to answer these questions, but I will watch intently nonetheless.
