Hatton vs Pacquiao: The Case For Hatton

The upcoming battle for supremacy at 140 pounds is such a big fight, that it deserves two posts. Next week, I’ll state the case for Manny "Pac Man" Pacquiao (48-3-2, 36 KOs) along with my prediction for the fight. Today, I state the case for Ricky Hatton. What I am about write will give Ricky "Hitman" Hatton’s (45-1, 32 KOs) rabid fans even more reason to "wild out," if that’s even possible.

Ricky’s fans can’t fight for him, but these three key factors could tip the fight in their favorite boxer’s favor:

  1. Floyd Mayweather. And no, I’m not talking about the semi-retired one! I’m talking about the self-proclaimed, "greatest trainer of all times," Floyd "Joy" Mayweather, Sr. If Mayweather’s fine-tuning of Hatton’s boxing skills is complete, I will no longer be able to jokingly refer to Hatton as the "Get Hit Man." More importantly, it will mean that Pacquiao will be in for a long night.
  2. Floyd Mayweather. This time I am talking about "the Pretty Boy." You’re probably wondering, how on earth is Hatton’s trainer’s son going to help him in this fight?!? Sure, Hatton got his butt handed to him when he fought Mayweather, Jr., but he also experienced world-class hand speed and foot speed first-hand. What better "speed education" can a fighter receive in preparation for Manny Pacquiao?
  3. Strength. If anyone has forgotten how strong Hatton is at junior welterweight, you simply need to dig up old footage of his fight with Kostya Tszyu. He will undoubtedly be the strongest fighter Pacquiao has ever faced in the ring. His natural size advantage should favor him when the fighters are in-close.

Keep an eye on these key factors when the two superstars clash on May 2nd. If they play out as I think they could, the streets of Manchester, United Kingdom may need extra riot police through the weekend.

I found this interesting. Bert Sugar. Who successfully predicted Pacquiao to beat De La Hoya. Is now picking Hatton to beat Pacquiao. If think if he fights him the way Juan Manual Marquez did. Manny could be in trouble.

Yes, this could actually be a better fight than many expect. Very interesting take by Sugar. I’m venturing to guess that he thinks a “comfortable at the weight” and physically strong Hatton will give Manny all he can handle. I’ll save my final prediction for next weekend though.

I’d just like to say that Hatton fighting anything like JMM is an impossibility.

Strangely enough, I find myself cheering for Hatton… Either I believe in the power of Mayweather Sr. or the spin doctors at HBO’s 24/7. Then again, they (HBO) had me believing that DLH actually had a fighting chance against the mighty monster from Manila. In either case, I think the real winner will be the guy sitting in his living room watching a great fight. Boxing needs this right now. The country needs some one to cheer for. Why not let them cheer for the under dog.

I personally think Hatton is going to get his hatt handed to him…but I’ll write more on that later.
