Expect A Bumpy Road For Glen Johnson When He Visits Chad Dawson In Connecticut

Mad Max would be envious of this road warrior. For what seems like the one-hundredth time in his career, Glen "the Road Warrior" Johnson (49-12-1, 33 KOs) travels to an opponent’s backyard. On November 7, he faces off against "Bad" Chad Dawson (28-0, 17 KOs) in a rematch for the WBC Light Heavyweight title in Hartford, Connecticut.

To put it kindly, Johnson will be facing an uphill battle, but not only because the fight is in Dawson’s home state.

Dawson has clear advantages in footwork, hand speed and ring generalship. Johnson counters with a better chin, a better resume and a more fundamentally sound defense. They’re pretty even in terms of power, stamina and strength.

But only one factor will ultimately matter on November 7. If you know me, you know what it is. If you do not, I’ll let you read the definition for yourself. Glen Johnson was never fast. Now he’s 40 years of age. Chad Dawson is very fast and is in his physical prime.

You know where this is headed…

On November 8, we’ll be discussing what’s next for Chad Dawson after he defeats Johnson more impressively than he did almost two years ago. Expect "Bad Chad" to win a comprehensive unanimous decision 11 days from now, further solidifying his claim as one of the top fighters today, despite what some people say.

Pleeeease, does anyone REALLY want to see this? Road Warrior or dusty old road? what a waste of airtime. You keep throwing a sharp talented young boxer up against an old lifeless club-fighter like johnson who always has a puncher’s chance does absolutely nothing for your talented young boxer. Move on son!

jabbo, the fight was mandated…and there is no one at 175 left to fight…maybe Chad should move to 168?

No doubt Ja, I’m well aware of the mandate factor but you couldn’t have sold this fight for for $10 bucks, it’s an absolute dog and I don’t believe the win warrants the risk of Glen Dawson simply getting lucky. And I can’t stand to think of “another” lack-luster between those guys. If there’s no one for Chad to fight at 175 (and there isn’t) he owes it to himself, his fans to seek other opportunities. Can you imagine “Bad Chad” at 168? wow! That kid would clean house!

jabbo, bad chad would be sick at 168…but i think it’s obvious that he outgrew that division…he started out there…i believe that gary shaw and co thought about that but it may be too tough for the young man…but he may have to, or moveb up to cruiser and give adamek a rematch in newark, nj…that’d be a nice gate.

@darren:That\’s one bold prediction…I don’t see it, but that\’s why they fight the fights.
