Floyd Mayweather Meets Shane Mosley In The Biggest Fight Of The Year (So Far)

On May 1, 2010, Floyd "Money" Mayweather, Jr. (40-0, 25 KOs) and "Sugar" Shane Mosley (46-5, 39 KOs) battle for welterweight supremacy. But more importantly, they are battling for a chance at a mega-fight against Manny Pacquiao (51-3-2, 38 KOs).

To the winner goes the spoils.

Who’s going win? I’m predicting a Floyd Mayweather unanimous decision victory based on the factors included in the table below. Who do you predict to win this superfight?

Floyd is my man…40 came to try their luck..they all fell short..and Mosley has already lost the psychological aspect of the fight..he’s gone and Pacman is just another punching back in waiting……..go get them ‘Money’

Victor: I’d raise Floyd and say how many of those 40 realistically had a chance before the ring bell was tolled? lol His arrogance is funny to me, it doesn’t really irk me. It only irks me when he wants to have things both ways — props for being undefeated but no criticism when he isn’t necessarily fighting the best fighters out there. You can’t say that now though — it doesn’t get much better than Shane Mosley. That said, my Money is on “May” on the 1st. When it’s all said and done, no fighter in the world has his blend of physical skills and ring savvy combined. Period.

I am not sure why you don’t think Shayne can match Floyd’s handspeed? Shayne has made his career on his great hand speed. It is something Floyd probably has never seen before. Age might be the only limitation against Shayne in this department.

Jeff, Shane has fast hands, but not Mayweather, or even Zab Judah fast. It’s not really a knock on him; but it’s like saying that a Corvette is slower than a Lamborghini…it’s ALL relative.

@jabbo: That’s very funny…hey, it takes a lot of guts to wear a money green, flammable suit…Shane is on fire, he was so hot. lmao

    OK Here is my take.

Boxing ability. Mosely is great but Mayweather is the best. In his losses, I have noticed that Shane has difficulty in adapting or changing his plan. He should have beaten Cotto but spent too much time standing in front of him looking for a big shot. Rodger has unbelievable timing which is sometimes mistaken for speed.

Defense. There may not have been any better than Mayweather. Shanes is good.

Speed. I think this is actually about even.

Footwork. this may be even also

Firepower. This is made of two components. Punching Power and Volume.
    Shane leads in both here.

Ability to take a punch. Shane has proven to have a good chin. I can’t ever remember Mayweather’s being tested.

Conditioning.. Generally after either of them fight, they look like they could do it all over again. Tossup.

Size and Strength. Unless there is a contracted weight limit the night of the fight, I would expect that Mayweather would come in at his usual 150 but Mosley could hydrate up to about 158 to 160. Shane will be a weight class bigger than Mayweather. Remember that Mosely had fought at 154 and Mayweather is not a full sized 147 class. Shane will be bigger and stronger which may dictate the style and outcome of the fight.

Common opponents. Both have fought Oscar. Shane beat Oscar twice at 147 and 154. Oscar was close to his best then. If they had fought a third time I think the outcome would be the same. Mayweather fought Oscar towards the end of his career and beat him in a close decision. One important thing was that when Oscar jabbed he was winning the rounds. I had the feeling that if they fought again that Oscar could have changed things and won.

I think it will play out with Mayweather backing up and Shane coming forward. Mayweather will catch Mosely coming in from time to time but if Mosely is smart he will come in firing his jab to some extent control Mayweather and set up right
hands and left hooks. I think that in the middle of the fight Shane will catch Mayweather slow him down to the point Mayweather is wary of Shanes speed and power. I don’t think Rodger can discourage Mosley with punchng power.

    Mosely by close decision.

Sorry this is so long winded.

@max:Max, this is a great, albeit long, comment. I appreciate it and ALMOST agree with your prediction. I just think the outcome will be flipped, Mayweather via close decision.
