Mikkel Kessler Will Hand Carl Froch His First Career Loss

Carl "the Cobra" Froch (26-0, 20 KOs) is the perfect opponent for Mikkel "the Viking Warrior" Kessler (42-2, 32 KOs) right now. He’s the least talented of the six boxers in Showtime’s groundbreaking super middleweight tournament. He’s the easiest to hit. And even better for Kessler, he’ll be fighting Froch in front of his adoring fans in Denmark?

This sounds all too familiar, right? Despite that past prediction hiccup, I am sticking with my guns when it comes to picking against Carl Froch. Sorry Froch fans, I just don’t think your boy is as good as his undefeated record appears to indicate.

I expect this to be a very exciting fight however. Despite his technical flaws, I can not deny that "the Cobra" is always aggressive, can take a punch (he’s never been stopped), is extremely strong, and has heavy hands (77% KO ratio).

The problem for him against Kessler is that he’s fighting a man who can be a powerful counter-puncher. This is potentially disastrous for a fighter who fights with such reckless abandon as Froch does. To make matters worse, Kessler has also never been stopped, is very strong, and can punch (73% KO ratio).

When it’s all said and done, I expect Mikkel Kessler to erase his debacle against Andre Ward and get his first win in "the Super Six" in two weeks. A stoppage victory is not beyond the realm of possibility, but I’ll settle on a Mikkel Kessler unanimous decision victory over Carl Froch.

Sorry that was a complete hometown decision. I can believe the way the judges scored that fight. Kessler was get wacked all around the ring. Froch is very wreckless. But I still don’t see how Kessler won this fight. Froch landed most of the heavy shots. I was not impressed with Kessler. Froch is as tough as nails. I don’t know. I might be blind. But I just didn’t see it.

Damn Jeff, I haven’t watched it yet. :) Ill check it out tonight to see what you mean. If it was home cooking, then Froch’s record is probably what it’s supposed to be, 1-1. But I wanna see for myself. Thanks for the update though. :)

sorry about that. I was watching it in Dutch this afternoon. Needless to say I was not influenced by the announcers in any way.

They clearly appeared to be rooting for Kessler. I thought Froch won 115-113 but as I often mention, the home ring advantage can swing a fight in one boxer’s favor. Froch should know from his Dirrell win. ;)

Which fight did you not feel Froch won which he shouldn’t have?

Was it Gus Jackson calling the fight last night? I like that guy. He’s a nice change from Steve Albert.

I have to give you credit. You won all your fights this month. Made some bold predictions. They all panned out, the way you called it. Now stick your nose out tell us that Mosley will beat Mayweather shocking the boxing the world.

I thought Dirrell beat him in Nottingham.

Yes, Gus Johnson is a very solid commentator.

I can’t go against the grain on Mayweather-Mosley. I could think it but can’t see it for Mosley.

    Thanks for the prediction props.

I see no home town decision in this fight son.
Yes,many rounds were close, but Kessler landed more punches, and was the agressor the whole fight.
To land a big hook in 3 minutes doesn’t make Froch win the round when Kessler has been punishing his ribs and his face the whole round.
I had 116 – 112 like one of the judges, but maybe a lot of people are saying that Froch won because they were impressed with his performance (and I did,he looked better than I expected)
